Fostering cooperation with municipalities in Southwest Serbia

Apr 14, 2014

Ms. Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, UN Resident Coordinator

Ms. Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, the UN Resident Coordinator visited Kosjerić, Požega, Priboj, Čajetina, Nova Varoš and Prijepolje. During her visit to Southwest Serbia, Ms. Sollorano met the Mayors and local community representatives. She presented the “Improving Human Security in Southwest Serbia” programme activities and planned events for 2014. Mr. Edin Kalac, the newly appointed Programme Coordinator was introduced to partners.

Maybe the most important activity that will start in April is the Social Innovation Camp (SIC). SIC brings together IT developers, designers and social innovators to work on mainstreaming digital solutions to developmental challenges in Serbia.

With the recent upsurge of Web 2.0 technologies, innovation in development is increasingly coming from outside of the “developed” world. Individuals and communities are collaborating at scale, speaking directly to their governments, as well as beyond them to the development community and the international public sphere.

In resolving these challenges, it is of utmost importance that women and men are equality represented. “Society can flourish only if women and men build strong partnerships for development”, said Ms.Vojackova.

The interview that Ms. Vojackova gave to the local TV could be seen here.
