Induction seminar for MPs serving their first term in the National AssemblyJul 15, 2016
Arandjelovac, 15th July, 2016 - From using social networks to communicate with citizens, to performing the oversight role of the National Assembly, to participating in international cooperation – these are the skill sets and knowledge that will be provided during an intensive two-day program of training and presentations, which, thanks to the support of the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), is organized in the form of – now traditional – introductory seminar for around 50 Members of Parliament (MPs) serving their first term in the National Assembly.
In their opening addresses to the participants, National Assembly Deputy Speakers Veroljub Arsic and Gordana Comic, UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia, Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, and Secretary General of the National Assembly Svetislava Bulajic underscored that there is no such thing as a universal job description for MPs and that every parliamentary democracy rests on an individual contribution that each MP makes to this important and responsible job.
"With this intensive training that is always given outside of the premises of the National Assembly to ensure participants’ undivided attention, we would like to support you in providing this individual contribution to the efficient work of the National Assembly in all its aspects,” said Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, adding that this training is also an opportunity for MPs of different party affiliations to meet and network, as they will cooperate intensively on a number of topics in the newly elected National Assembly.
The new MPs will learn from experts with specialized knowledge and experiences in their respective fields but also from more experienced MPs, many of whom also improved their initial knowledge of the specific requirements and opportunities that work in the National Assembly provides - at this very introductory training, organized at the beginning of earlier Assemblies.
The two-day training which takes place at Izvor hotel in Arandjelovac is being organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, as part of the project devoted to Strengthening of the oversight role of the National Assembly, funded by Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).
