European Mobility Week 2016

Ms. Steliana Nedera, Deputy Resident Representative at UNDP Serbia was one of the pedestrians leaving green footprints on a pedestrian crossing to mark the beginning of the European Mobility Week 2016

Today marks the beginning of the European Mobility Week 2016, which comprises a series of events throughout the following week (September 16-22) aimed to mobilize drivers to consider using alternative sustainable means of transport and hence decrease harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

This year’s European Mobility Week in 2016 is held under the slogan 'Smart and Sustainable Mobility and it is jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme, in cooperation with the Secretariat for Transport of the City of Belgrade and Delegation of the EU to the Republic of Serbia. By making our transport systems sustainable, in particular in urban areas, we are making efforts to create sustainable economies and societies in general.

At the opening event held today at the Secretariat for Transport of the City of Belgrade, Mr. Goran Vesić, City Manager noted that the city's policy includes reduction of traffic in the city center, introduction of more pedestrian areas and cycling tracks and announced that the legal conditions have been met to introduce a bike-sharing system. Ms. Steliana Nedera, Deputy Representative at UNDP Serbia invited the authorities to help in reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and invited the public to take part in two initiatives during this week: Cycling Ride for all Belgraders on Saturday, September 17 and Samo ne autom (engl. Just not by Car) challenge for companies/employees on Thursday, September 22 - The World Car Free Day.

16 September  - “Green Pedestrian Crossings”

17 September  - Promotional cycling ride to mark newly furbished cycling line from Banjica to Topciderska Zvezda square.

18 September  - Promoting City Decision on installing Rent-a-bike stations in Belgrade

19 September  - Promoting “School zone” signalization next to Fifth Belgrade Grammar School

20 September  - Promoting installed 15 bicycle parking lots

21 September  - Promoting new buss line with 5 EKO 1 electrical vehicles (commuting from Vukov Spomenik – Delta City)

22 September  - Car Free Day and a corporate competition Samo ne autom
