Empowering the future eco leadersDec 22, 2017
How to turn your green idea into a successful environmental project in your local community – this was the topic of the workshops entitled „Youth and Environment“, which brought together representatives of youth associations and local youth offices across Serbia. Workshops were organized in November and December in Belgrade, Niš, Kragujevac and Novi Sad, by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
The future eco leaders learned about environmental protection trends and ways to design a successful project in the field, which would engage youth. The participants also received helpful information on the available national and international funds for the projects, as well as tips on how to apply for these funds.
„The main goal of the workshop is to ensure that young people in Serbia participate in the environmental activities in their local communities and to empower them to be the agents of change towards improved nature protection, better water management, reduction of air pollution, increased use of renewable energy sources and introduction of green economy“, said Katarina Vukšić, Project Coordinator at UNDP Serbia. She also stressed that it was very important to engage youth to take an active role in creating the future they want.
The workshops were organized within the project “Capacity Development for Improved Implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements“, which is being implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, and funded by Global Environmental Facility (GEF).
Over the course of 2017, within the same Project, training on green entrepreneurship was also organized, to help young men and women acquire entrepreneurial skills, learn how to make a business plan and check the feasibility of their ideas.
